Here is today's Choice Bit....
A writer tells of his recent trip to London to see an exhibition for Van Gogh the artist and his letters. “One of the paintings was of a huge vase full of white roses. It was beautiful, but the colour balance looked a little odd. On reading the notes by the painting I discovered the reason. When Van Gogh painted the picture the flowers were pink!”In only just over 100 years the flowers had faded to white! The cause of this? The use of fugitive or degraded pigments such as Rose Madder known for it’s fading particles.
Technology today has progressed to a very high level in producing
paints now that will last for decades, so we as artists can choose the
best archival quality pigments available. And yet, even the best of
materials that this earth can offer will one day still decay and fade
away.
God’s Word tells us not to just store up treasures that will rust or be eaten away by moths, but more importantly to store up treasures in Heaven that will last for Eternity. Matthew 6:19-21
How comforting to know that when God, the Master painter, gives us a new heart cleansed from our sins and filled with His purpose, meaning and continued power over sin, then that spiritual power will never fade or decay because of any inferior materials on God's part.
We may fail Him at times, but it is never because His empowerment has failed. He never changes or breaks His promise to us. However, when and if we make the choice to please ourselves instead of God then we grieve Him and we have chosen not to live in His power. We only need to confess our sin and turn from it. His mercies are new every morning.
Yes, because of original sin and it’s effect on each of us, our
present bodies will decay and die, but our redeemed spirits will enjoy eternal life in Christ. Nothing can separate us from the Love of God ever again. And until we are called home to glory, as we depend and live by God’s Word, we too continually reflect His beauty and grace, unlike Van Gogh’s pink roses!
